Must see · Park · Historic Site
See the summertime retreat of the Roosevelt family, and discover the charms of the place FDR referred to as the 'beloved island' at Roosevelt Campobello International Park. Now a park administered jointly by Canada and the United States, the retreat's focal point remains the summer cottage where Franklin D Roosevelt and his family spent their holidays before he became the 32nd President of the United States. The cottage now contains a museum dedicated to the President, First Lady, and their family, with many rooms remodeled to look as they did in the early 20th century. The surrounding 1,134 ha (2,800 acre) park offers a wealth of walking routes, forestland, headlands, and beaches. For travelers who use our world travel planner, Campobello Island holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Roosevelt Campobello International Park and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • This was beautiful. The window in the dining room in the secondary (friends?) cottage is stunning. My favourite part for sure. It looks like a photo on the wall. I could sit there all day. Lots of...  more »
  • We are SO glad that we stumbled upon this International Park on our Acadia National Park Vacation. It's only about an hour from Acadia and well worth the visit (just make sure you have your passport!). The free FUN tour was exceptional and the grounds are lovely. Expect to spend 2-3 hours at the park, more if you have time to go hiking. The staff at the visitor's center were friendly, knowledgeable, and very helpful. This is an incredible International park that celebrates the Roosevelt's US/Canadian connection. Well worth the time.
  • Fantastic employees make this place even more special! Go have Tea with Eleanor and learn her legacy. Nice restuarant on site to eat. The staff are so great, even our littlest of children were pleasantly amused and remained focused for each tour and activity we did!
