#5 of 27 in Parks in Quebec City
Stroll through Battlefields Park (Parc des Champs-de-Bataille), a historical urban national park and green lung of Quebec City. Established as a park in 1908, the area contains the Plains of Abraham--site of a famous 1759 battle between British and French forces. The British victory proved decisive for the subsequent development of the nation. View numerous pieces of artillery sprawled across the park and admire the Martello towers, which the British built to defend the city against an American siege. • There's not much to see in winter, but we went by on our bus tour of the city. The history is that the opposing generals were both killed at the same time during the battle there.  more »
  • Plains of Abraham in 1759, France army is defeated by British troops is maintained as a battlefield Park. The entrance is Museum, displays historical documents on the military at that time. Across the St. Lawrence River from the fortress type Park in the Observatory, far better views.

  • Great park with magnificent views. It has a nice deck that goes from the park to the town itself and everything is superbly clean and nice. Would highly recommend it for a stroll or a picnic on a nice day
  • Wonderful walk through history - but has great hiking and walking trails through the woods as well. Nice pavilions and fountains. This is where the Battle of the Plains of Abraham took place and the British took over Quebec from the French in the 1750's. The trails here lead down to the Citadel and old Wall in Old Quebec city. Wonderful green space - and make sure you check out the museum at the end of the park!
  • Spent a lot of time hiking around this area mostly because I was lost but I royally enjoyed it....views were great.
  • It is a beautiful place to walk through. Took lots of pics. What an amazing experience and so much to see.
  • A beautiful spacious park along the shore of the St. Lawrence River is definitely worth visiting while in Quebec city. The scenery is incredible and for the most part does not allude to the fact that a bloody battle between the French and English happened on this spot 250 years ago. There are 2 Mortello towers in the park to showcase the military past but also a very colorful garden with a statue of Joan of Arc in it's center. A very large park that sits beside the Citadel and is very accessible to enjoy.

Where to stay in Quebec City

Most accommodations cluster on the west side of the St. Lawrence River, with the city's split-level old town offering the widest range of options and best access to top attractions. Stay in the upper town to be close to the castle and enjoy views over the river. What the lower town lacks in panoramas, it makes up for in historic charm and access to riverside cafes and restaurants. If you want a less-touristy experience, consider the up-and-coming neighborhood of St. Roch, whose cafes, bars, restaurants, and artistic spaces make it an alternative traveler's paradise.
