  • The view of Quebec City and the Château frontenac is splendid here. We learn bcp on the beginnings of Quebec. The residence of a Governor and the old Southern prisons. Recommend a visit at least once.

  • To pay ticket you participate in a guided tour by telling the story of Quebec and your guard. You can watch the changing of the guard. It's worth it.

  • This is maybe most interesting for all Canadian and less for those outside Canada. The stories is very much about Canada and their history. You only get to see very little of the inside.  more »

  • The museum is very interesting but you MUST take the walking tour (included in the price) or you will miss out on a ton of information and many of the buildings. Our tour guide, Antoine, was fantastic, informative and funny. (Be sure to tip your tour guide whoever it is. They do a great service.) The history of the facility is fascinating. Not only is the tour itself great but the view of the city is AMAZING from up there! Well worth the price of admission as well as the walk up.
  • I was blown away by the history behind this incredible Citadelle and the sweeping views it offers. On top of that, my tour guide was excellent and really took his time explaining everything. I would highly recommend visiting the Citadelle on your trip to Québec City.
  • Excellent tour guide and the displays in the additional buildings are interesting. Sounds like there is a little more to do in the spring and summer months (I was there early December) but still worth the reasonable admission. Entrance can be found by going up the road closest to the gate to old towne.
  • Incredible bit of history here. The Citadel is still an active military base so you will have to go through security on your way in for the tour, and you must be part of a guided tour. No free roaming around the Citadel. Thankfully the tour is great. Our tour guide had an incredible amount of knowledge and was able to answer every question the group threw at her. The tour takes you around the Citadel and inside some of the historic buildings. There is also a museum on site with a ton of Canadian military history. All around a great time and value with some beautiful views of the river and old Quebec.
  • Very nice place. The guide tour really worth it (he goes all the way to the best spots and tells you the history of the place) available in english or in french. Very nice place for beautiful photos. The museum is great with some very nice artefacts and videos. I really recommend if you are staying in Quebec City.

Where to stay in Quebec City

Most accommodations cluster on the west side of the St. Lawrence River, with the city's split-level old town offering the widest range of options and best access to top attractions. Stay in the upper town to be close to the castle and enjoy views over the river. What the lower town lacks in panoramas, it makes up for in historic charm and access to riverside cafes and restaurants. If you want a less-touristy experience, consider the up-and-coming neighborhood of St. Roch, whose cafes, bars, restaurants, and artistic spaces make it an alternative traveler's paradise.
