Parliament Building, Quebec City

4.4
Pay a visit to Parliament Building, a grandiose eight-floor structure that houses the Parliament of Quebec. Built in the late 19th century and designed by architect Eugene-Etienne Tache, the imposing structure stands at 52 m (171 feet) tall overlooking the St. Lawrence River on top of Parliament Hill. View the Second Empire-style facade, an eclectic mix of early European styles, adorned with 22 statues of notable people from the province's history. Take a tour of the interior to learn more about the history and architecture of the building, and to see the National Assembly and Council chambers. • Old building but very well maintained and preserved. A true postcard of this beautiful and lush Canadian city. Will walk, walk a lot I spent for it, it's worth it!

  • This was a very good free tour of the parliament building. The guide was very knowledgeable about the building and it’s history. She also gave a nice overview of the political system in Quebec and Can...  more »
  • Renovation of the home, this Parliament is at the heart of the upper town. Near the Plains, not far from the old Qc. History of upper and lower Canada. It's too bad that it houses the liberal party for many years. Place great moments of the Qc as the nationalization of electricity, two referendums, the quiet revolution... the French capital of the Canada.

  • Very beautiful, helpful staff who actually care, and the tour was a very informative experience (although a bit bland). The clock tower tour had a magnificent view and was well worth the 30-minute wait for admission tickets (which were free)
  • We went there around 10 a.m. for booking english tour for free. 12:00 tour was the earliest one. Good place to visit for tourists. For the time being construction, we entered temporary entrance. For the admission, ID required and we went through security check.
  • Google says this place closes at 2:00p, but I just came back from a 2:15p English tour. It was comprehensive. Learned and got bored. This place needs a major renovation. It is coming apart and it is not very impressive. But it was a good way to learn about French Canadá (according to South Park, it's the best Canadá).
  • I went to an English guided tour on Nov 3 15:15. The staff is very nice, very knowledgeable. Thanks very much!!!
  • This is the great place to visit in Quebec City. It is not only full of history of Quebec but also the birth of Canada as the Province of Lower Canada. There are French and English tour and it is free. Highly recommended.

Where to stay in Quebec City

Most accommodations cluster on the west side of the St. Lawrence River, with the city's split-level old town offering the widest range of options and best access to top attractions. Stay in the upper town to be close to the castle and enjoy views over the river. What the lower town lacks in panoramas, it makes up for in historic charm and access to riverside cafes and restaurants. If you want a less-touristy experience, consider the up-and-coming neighborhood of St. Roch, whose cafes, bars, restaurants, and artistic spaces make it an alternative traveler's paradise.
