Fort Amsterdam, Willemstad

2.8
#3 of 10 in Historic Sites in Curacao
Government Building · Hidden Gem · Historic Site
Admire the 17th century construction of Fort Amsterdam as you step inside the UNSECO world heritage grounds of Willemstad. Constructed in 1634, the fort features 3 m (10 ft) wide walls and four bastions. Inside, it houses government offices, a cabinet belonging to the governor of Curacao, and the museum of the Protestant community of the city, which is located in the fort church. Head to the fort church and find a cannonball still wedged into its facade, the result of British forces firing shots from a stronghold, with one of them eventually reaching the church.
