Špilberk Castle, Brno

4.3
At Špilberk Castle, walk through the dark dungeons where common criminals as well as state prisoners, such as Italian nationalists or opponents of the Hapsburg monarchy, spent years of confinement. The 13th-century fortress, which rises up on a steep slope next to the historical center of the city, is a popular place for walks and relaxation. Over the centuries, the castle has served as the seat of the Moravian margraves, a fortress, and military barracks. Now it is home to the valuable collections of the city museum, which give insight into the history of the castle as the famous "prison of nations." • Nice castel with great view. The visit to the prison was a bit frightening but the place was worth visiting, audio tour was really interesting!  more »
  • There is a musea, without relation with castle's past.. disappointed. Little view on Brno and bar/restaurant. The Park seems nice !  more »

  • The castle has a nice view and a few places to sit down and relax while enjoying something to drink or eat. The lookout tower is a nice feature as well as it has the best view of downtown Brno. There is not so much for kids here and also the park on the way up is historic without much for kids or adults. The castle is small compared to a few others in Czech Republic but still interesting enough to explore.
  • Nice place to visit and walk around. Would have gone inside maybe if instructions were a little clearer. Google Translate helped a little. Maybe an English translation for us dumb mono lingual types.
  • Great castle with stunning views over the city Brno. Medieval castle is well reconstructed and great possibilities for walking tour also with nearby park and offers stunning views over Brno city. We have visited only courts and park, but there are interesting catacombs called "kazemats" to visit also.
  • Obviously a must when you visit Brno. Somehow it's a bit disappointing when you are inside the courtyard even though it has been beautifully restored. There is just not that much to see. For me the best is the view over the city.
  • It's is a perfect place to walking, running or just seat and relax observing the great view of Brno. You can lunch there, or have a coffee, also there has good places to make a picnic with your family, dog, etc.
