An example of one of the more unusual ways to store and display human remains, Sedlec Ossuary is a small chapel located beneath what is likely the oldest cemetery in Central Europe. The ossuary contains at least 40,000 human skeletons arranged in bizarre shapes that resemble chandeliers, pyramids, crosses, and coats of arms. These strange chapel decorations, the work of a 19th-century master builder named Frantisek Rint, contain skulls and bones previously disinfected and bleached in chlorinated lime. A chilling reminder of the fleetingness of human life, this World Heritage-listed site attracts a quarter of a million people each year.     An out-of-this-world (creepy, in some ways) experience to see crypts full of bones, skulls arranged into all kinds of "artwork". It's a half day trip by train from Prague to Kutna Hora to the Sedlec.....  more »

    It's pretty macabre, but also impressive. I've never seen anything like it. In 1870 a local man called Frantisek Rint was allowed to use the bones of around 40,000 people to decorate the church...  more »

    That was an increadible experience. I dont know if everybody will like it or not. But really the concept and also the reason beside the number of bones there(remaining of over 60k persons) was just stonishing for me.
