#3 of 14 in Historic Sites in Vysocina Region
Pernštejn Castle is a castle on a rock above the village of Nedvědice and the rivers Svratka and Nedvědička, some 40km northwest of Brno, in the South Moravian Region, Czech Republic. Pernštejn came to be known as the marble castle because of the marble-like stone used to frame the doors and windows. It was founded by the Lords of Medlov probably between 1270–1285. The family branch seated at the castle and adopted the then fashionable name Pernštejn, which is the Czech version probably derived of the German name, Bärenstein – the "Bear Rock". Its history is closely connected to the Lords of Pernštejn and their descendants. It has kept its intact appearance in the Gothic and Renaissance form as it was finished in the first half of the 16th century by the Pernštejns, then the richest and most powerful lordly family of the Czech kingdom. Pernštejn is one of the best preserved castles in Czech Republic.

  • Just half a day for this tour, just 40 km from Brno, the Castle truly deserves, especially from the outside, the guided tour for the Interior is boring, only with a guide in Czech and English language book just succeed through some rooms with walls unadorned and furnishings from different eras with an effect a little contrived, but everyone make your choice according to your suggestions

  • A beautiful and romantic castle. The tour lasted about 80 minutes, and the interpretation was interesting. From the Tower of the castle is a nice and long views of the surroundings.

  • You can feel the time had long since past the remnants of the scent of movie fairy tales. If only there were less tůristů and peace ... especially those kids, what of the tours they have nothing and destroys her and the others, paying. still, I do recommend the castle is one of those sites that you should see.

  • Book your tour beforehand, park your car and go to the castle by ecotrain. The castle is one of the oldest in the world actually, and really beautiful. Lots of movies were shot there. You can take pictures (no flash use though), and you get English sheet with information. You can also have (more expensive) English tour, ordered before.
  • One of the most beautiful castles in CR and one of my favorite; the scenery takes you back in time.....
