You will find Parc de Sceaux in front of the Château de Sceaux, a grand country house that now houses an art museum. Landscape architect André Le Nôtre, Louis XIV's chief gardener, laid out the park. It once included terraced gardens, canals, an orangery, and a stone cascade that flows into an octagonal basin. During the French Revolution, the state confiscated the property and sold it. The new owner destroyed the original château and grew crops in the famed ornamental gardens. During Napoleon's reign, different owners restored the park to its original glory and built a smaller home on the site. Today, the park is open to the public. Wow, what an amazing park! It's huge, but every part of it is unique and beautiful. It is used by plenty of runners, so it feels lively, even in March. Definitely worth the short trip in my opinion. Escape the crowds and enjoy relaxing in this park, which is unlike any other.
Pretty spectacular gigantic public park near the center of Paris - as you walk the sprawling grounds, and enjoy the meticulously planned gardens, it is hard to believe all this natural greenery exists within the confines of a great city. There's an art museum, plenty of restrooms, lots of posted maps and signage. And of course, there's a stately manor house near the center.
