  • From the glass roof of the inner courtyard to the I.M. Pei exhibition hall, the museum itself is a masterpiece of old and new. Like the name implies, by way of paintings, sculpture and artifacts, the ...  more »
  • This was our favourite of all the main museums (and we did most of them). Loads to see, very interesting, and no queues! Definitely worth half a day here. Just try and enter through the main entrance,...  more »
  • This place is huge and contains a lot of exhibits, art work, and interesting write ups. We only had two hours, and found ourselves rushing through the second part of the exhibit due to time restraints...  more »

  • I only had time to see the upper floor dealing with ancient German history up to World War I during my visit there, nevertheless this museum is a really enjoyable and informative look at German history and I would recommend this to anyone who has a similar interest. A couple of (small) quibbles though. Whether photography is permitted (or not - I assumed it wasn't, so took no photos), I think the museum could do better in clearly displaying this. Also, the earlier parts of German history, while good, seemed a little brief to me. Still, I found it an enjoyable and reasonably priced day out and maybe one day, I'll get the chance to see the rest.
  • Second the opinion of other reviewers, this is exactly how a national history museum should present itself. First a 45 minutes video to get the overview of the content you'll find in the museum, then the exhibition which goes into detail. The orientation could be better cause I find the subcategories are a bit out of order. But overall the presentation and information is by far the best. Call me a fool but I actually spend my whole day here from 10am to 6pm, and I only covered the first floor, Will go back tomorrow for the rest. This is going to beat my record of 11hours in the archeology museum of Madrid hahaha.
  • Every country should have this LEVEL of quality in telling it's history. This museum really blow up. So nice, so clear. There is a session where both sides of Germany are compared by car, food, kitchen, products and so one. Technology overview, Nazi stuff, engines, clothes, painting - all you can imagine in a German organization. Can't be better. Congratulations for the team that build and keep it running so nice!
  • Pretty awesome. Easy to spend hours here. Good video introduction. Amazing suits of armour and other unique items. Really liked learning about pre-unification germany.
  • The museum is price sensibly. The museum has a great collection of early age German related goods such as Armour, badges, shield and swords. It also Utilize technology cleverly. The use of space is also very efficient. The museum is split into two levels, the upper level is from ancient times to end of WWI and the lower level is dedicated to the unification of Germany.

Where to stay in Berlin

The Kreuzberg neighborhood near the Oberbaumbrüke bridge is central and full of Berlin icons: street art, a piece of the Berlin Wall, the East Side Gallery, and a proliferation of cafes. Friedrichshain is another option with a hip vibe due to the students who congregate at its cafes and galleries. Consider Mitte as a historic home base. Mitte is the area where almost all of Berlin's well-known buildings are located, and it is within walking distance of Alexanderplatz. For a peaceful residential area, try Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf where the streets are lined with boutiques and quiet coffee shops.
