Neues Museum, Berlin

4.4
#3 of 168 in Museums in Berlin
For a rare look at the iconic bust of the Egyptian queen Nefertiti, visit Neues Museum on the city's famous Museum Island. The museum houses vast collections of prehistoric and ancient Egyptian artifacts. The building itself draws both art and architecture enthusiasts with its award-winning use of modern iron construction and original Neoclassical design. Originally built between 1843 and 1855, it was designed by architect Friedrich August Stuler. The museum was closed in 1939 and was heavily damaged during the bombing raids of the city. Architect David Chipperfield spearheaded the post-war rebuilding efforts, and the museum finally reopened in 2009. Skip the long lines by booking your tickets online. • Interesting exposition, very wise arrangement of rooms, audio guide, locker room and luggage storage, everything is there for an additional fee (outer clothing better withdraw and leave the bulky bags, backpacks). The bust of Nefertiti is astounding: the ideal facial features as if froze for just a second.

  • The presentation of the exhibits under glass is excellent. In a building which had been rebuild after the war - showing the old walls within a modern architecture.  more »
  • As an architect, the most interesting is the architecture of the remodeling and expansion of David Chipperfield. One pass!

  • An absolutely beautiful museum! Beautifully redone by David Chipperfield. The attention to detail in the construction of the museum makes it a wonderful place to visit for architecture enthusiasts and students as well as people seeking time in a wonderful gallery. In October, the exit was very strange and it felt like you were being pushed into a back alley. I'm sure it will be different when the new construction is completed.
  • Amazing architecture (actually the museum island still under construction) . A complete review of the history of different cultures and periods. Good Audio guides and staff were really friendly. Was a happy afternoon at this museum and I get the best experience ever at the museum island🏝
  • What an amazing museum part of museum island. I only got to see three due to so many artifacts. The Egyptian artifacts were awesome and the bust of Queen Nefertiti blew me away very emotional. I would highly recommended this museum as with the others. You will need a one day pass at 18 euros but you will need an early start to see all five museums. I will be back to see the two I didn't visit.
  • Lots to see and I highly enjoyed the Nefertiti Bust. It’s a beautiful piece of art that I’d recommend seeing if you’re in Berlin. I wasn’t crazy about the other exhibits, but this one piece made it worth a visit. The actual museum itself that houses all of the treasures is a piece of art in itself. It combines a lot of the original building with complementary and modern architecture.
  • One of the best classic museums of the world. The collection is awesome but the organization is not at level. Sometimes It feels a little random. Also a lot of information (easily 80 %) is only in deutsch. Needs work to make It more modern.
