Pfaueninsel, Berlin

4.6
#1 of 6 in Nature in Berlin
Situated along the River Havel and only accessible by a small ferry, the nature reserve of Pfaueninsel makes up part of the World Heritage Site of the Palaces and Parks of Potsdam and Berlin. The island, named after the free-roaming peacocks that live here, feels a world away from Germany's bustling capital. Besides its colorful feathered residents, the park is home to a number of other attractions, including a striking white medieval-style palace built by Friedrich Wilhelm II from 1794 to 1797. Admire the architecture and wander the grounds, where you can encounter a range of fauna alongside the peacocks. Snack shacks are located near the ferry drop-off. Plan your visit to Pfaueninsel and a wealth of other attractions, well-known and undiscovered, using our Berlin vacation planner.

It's a particular niche. You can get there easily, metro up to 15 minutes for a bus 218 Wannsee and then 5 minute ferry ride. There is lots of greenery a beautiful castle many flowers and peacocks roaming free. Itinerary for young people and schools. An enjoyable walk up to a beautiful meadow where there is a restaurant and bar for a snack a a good price. We then get to the aviaries where you can admire other peacocks and other birds. In a couple of hours it goes around and you find yourself at the ferry.

A special Park, beautifully situated in the Havel with bus (every hour from and Wannsee S-Bahn station) and ferry (commutes constantly back and forth) can be reached. Ferry entrance per person = €4 (there and back). Alternatively from Wannsee, take a boat trip, such as the seven lakes tour holds gen end opposite the island and you can get off! Dogs and bicycles are not allowed. You have to stay on the trails but there are benches, enough trash bins, a shop, a café, linger enough possibilities. The blend of original landscape, much forest and landscaped flower beds, rose garden, fountain, Aviary is particularly attractive, etc.! Very nice go for extensive walking and relaxing. Everything is well sign-posted. You can also see peacocks! Rightly UNESCO World Heritage!

Where to stay in Berlin

The Kreuzberg neighborhood near the Oberbaumbrüke bridge is central and full of Berlin icons: street art, a piece of the Berlin Wall, the East Side Gallery, and a proliferation of cafes. Friedrichshain is another option with a hip vibe due to the students who congregate at its cafes and galleries. Consider Mitte as a historic home base. Mitte is the area where almost all of Berlin's well-known buildings are located, and it is within walking distance of Alexanderplatz. For a peaceful residential area, try Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf where the streets are lined with boutiques and quiet coffee shops.
