Explore the dark side of Hungarian and European history at House of Terror Museum, a specialty museum focusing on fascist and communist regimes. The permanent exhibits feature artifacts from Nazi Germany, the Soviet Union, the fascist Arrow Cross Party, and the communist AVH (Hungarian State Protection Authority). Walk into the depths of violent, dictatorial moments that took place the 20th century by stepping into the museum's basement, where AVH prisoners were once held and tortured. These cells serve as a memorial to victims of the country's bloody regimes. Since it opened in 2002, this museum has become a member of the Platform of European Memory and Conscience. • Visited this museum and found it to be the most disrespectful memorials ever. From the outside it could’ve been a theme park attraction particularly the signage. This continued inside where inappropri...  more »
  • On the outside the building is cool, and if you know the story even more, but like everything in the city I find it expensive to pay 10 or 12 e to enter. I insist like everything to get money out of the tourist. I think these things historic should be paid for maintenance, not that price. If you pay all the sites of Budapest... It's not a cheap city anymore. I think the inputs are excessive.

  • Somber but informative. Didn't get the audio guide but was able to understand a lot of the information thanks to the English cards in each room and the subtitles on videos. Certainly worth the entry price, especially considering the lift down to and the basement itself. Chilling but a needed visit for those interested in Hungarian history.
  • Mostly just TVs on walls with similar footage on all of them, all information is on pieces of paper which you have to read while walking around each room. Nothing special at all. Then you have to go in a lift to get to the basement whether you want to or not which takes ages because there's another TV in the lift With a video same as in the treat of the museum. Saving grace is the basement which has original cells for imprisonment which. Other than that it wasn't worth visiting.
