Enter a sacred cave under five ancient bunyan trees at Sita Gumpha, a popular Hindu shrine near Nashik. A very narrow staircase leads you down into the cavern, believed to be the place from which the legendary King Ravan abducted Lord Rama’s wife, Sita. The cave has a shiva linga worshiped by Sita, and statues of Ram, Lakshman, and Sita can also be seen in the cave, which lies 9.4 km (5.8 mi) from Nashik Railway Station. Plan our visit ahead of time to avoid long queues, and remember to bring a torch.
