Trip Planner: Europe / Ireland / Province of Munster / County Clare / The Burren / Corofin / Burren National Park
Witness the natural wonder of Burren National Park, an area that is both rocky and fertile. "Burren" comes from an Irish word meaning "a rocky place," which fits because the area is full of exposed limestone. You can tour the karst hills of the region, which are rich in historic and archeological sites, including several megalithic tombs, portal dolmens, and the nearby Corcomroe Abbey. Leave time to visit the 1,500 hectare (3,707 acre) national park, located in the southeastern corner of the region. You may think, "There's no point driving to just see barren rocks." But you would be wrong! There is such mesmerizing tranquility and beauty here. I love just walking near the lakes and on the rails and hearing the wind and the birds and seeing where people eeked out a life over 5000 years ago. And as you drive there, you get to see that many are still doing just that on quaint and active farms.
What a wonderful experience this was. The blue loop is not to hard and offers amazing views over the Burren. I was once again stunned by the beauty of Ireland. In warm weather pack enough water, cause you won't find any. High hiking boots are probably no mistake, since the risk to trip is quite high.
