Civilization was managed for centuries from Palatine Hill, the commercial, religious, and political center of ancient Rome. The city on top of this hill looks down upon the age-old forum from a height of about 40 m (131 ft). Once an inhospitable marshland, the area was gradually drained and then turned into a hub of the city's political and economic activities. You may want to visit more than once to see everything, so remember that your ticket is good for two days. You can access these sites only by foot over a bumpy path with stones from the ancient Roman period. You may want to rent an audio guide at a nearby booth. Put Palatine Hill and other Rome attractions into our Rome holiday planner, and watch your holiday take shape.

The place is big. Expect at least an hour if you want to go over everything. However in my experience you should just go up hill and see it above. Impressive place. One of the top visits in Roma.
This place is awesome and HUGE! Be sure to have some good shoes and a bottle of water handy (which you can refill at any of their open public fountains). The entire venue is both jaw dropping and humbling as much as it is inspiring. I recommend you buy your ticket at the Palatine Hill ticket office at the start of the day, then run over to the Colosseum (both are bundled on the same ticket), then return back to Palatine Hill after the Colosseum.
