Throw a coin over your left shoulder into Trevi Fountain, the legend claims, and you are sure to eventually return to the city. Undoubtedly one of the most photographed sites in the city, the fountain was designed by architect Nicola Salvi and built in 1762. Standing at 26 m (86 ft) high and 49 m (161 ft) wide, it is the largest Baroque fountain in the city. Fans of Italian cinema easily recognize this site, which has appeared in numerous notable films, including director Federico Fellini's famed "La Dolce Vita." You will not find any other place in the world that celebrates the ever-mutating and incredible power of water like Rome. The Trevi Fountain is a fantastic work of art that is much more than a mere sculpture. This triumphant example of Baroque art with its soft, natural lines and fantasy creatures embodies movement as the soul of the world. The fountain is a true wonder, a jewel of water and stone that is nestled between the palaces of the historic centre of the city.

This is an impressive structure that appears to have been well maintained. The artwork, or sculptures, are classic. A wide-angle lens is recommended if you want to photograph the fountain because it is reasonably wide with limited room in front. Angled shots will be fine. Even in the relative calm of winter time (late January) this location was very busy with lots of tourists. It is a place of significant history though and still worth a look. There are some cafes and ice-creameries in the square, at the site.
