Plaza Mijares, San Jose del Cabo

Stroll Plaza Mijares, a laidback plaza and a gathering spot for locals. This Spanish-style square is shaded by old trees and lined with colonial-era buildings. Admire the stately church building and town hall, or visit some of the art shops and galleries flanking the plaza. Hang out at one of the charming restaurants, view the picturesque gazebo in the middle of the square, or sit back and take in the tranquil atmosphere. • We were down here for the Art Walk on a Thursday evening. The mix of locals and tourists, artisans, dance troupes, street food and restaurants was neat to experience.  more »
  • We had a wonderful time watching the local celebration. There were booths and a costume competition. We didn't understand everything but it was colorful and fun.  more »

  • We stopped by this Plaza as a result of coming here with our tour guide who gave us some historical information about how the Plaza's were used by the local community in the courting relationship of the teens and the accompanying family members. Our tour guide explained how the teens would walk in a circle around the gazebo. How a rose was passed and how the acceptance or denial of that flower was an acceptance or denial of the courting teen. we ventured around the plaza to view some of the other shops and then Departed the area happy that we were able to at least see and walk around this common area and hear its historical references.
  • There are a few shops here and all of them are relatively the same. They are selling t-shirts, shot glasses, keychains and other souvenirs. There are also a handful of jewelry places in addition to some popsicle shops and restaurants. The owners of the store were extremely friendly, however, they did their best to avoid being paid in pesos claiming they didn't have change or asking for smaller bills. With that being said, if you are looking for souvenirs, this is the place to come, but if you want to get any real shopping done, I would suggest you look elsewhere.
