Admire walls decorated in intricate floral patterns and beautiful "faience" tile work at Masjid Wazir Khan, a prime example of Mughal architecture. Built in only 7 years between 1634-1635, the mosque displays Koran verses and Persian poetry in bright colors including cobalt, blue, green, and yellow, embellished with glazed tile mosaics and written in elegant calligraphy. Engraved honeycomb patterns on the ceiling and in the minarets resemble the famous Alhambra in Spain. An unusual feature are the minarets which soar into the air 30 m (100 ft) high, the first of their kind for this type of mosque in Lahore. • Spectacular... Although it was pouring. My grand children visiting from Canada and I manged to go inside Delhi gate in a rickshaw. Went up the minaret of the majestic mosque. Restoration work in progress. Extremely hospitable people. Overwhelming experience.
  • This is a 17th century mosque in the heart of old Lahore. I have to say, it's one of the more 'artsy' mosques in the city - nay, country. Absolutely gorgeous, the mosque is an architectural masterpiece that's a very interesting blend of Indian and Persian architectural styles. It's brick walls are covered by glazed tiles and intricate frescoes. Ultimately, the mosque makes for a unique, totally mesmerizing and memorable experience. The approach is through old Lahore's Delhi Gate and then through Chitta Gate. You get to it by passing through busy and winding narrow streets. That unto itself is an experience - especially for foreigners! Strongly recommended!
