Phutuq K'usi, Aguas Calientes

4.3
#4 of 6 in Parks in Machu Picchu
Scale Phutuq K'usi to traverse a recently discovered Incan trail and view the far side of Machu Picchu. The trail starts with a wire climb up the side of the mountain. As you continue on, ladders are available for climbing, though some areas still require the use of upper body strength to go further. These aspects make the trail difficult for anyone not in good physical shape, but if you are determined and able enough, you can reach the summit. Those who have climbed it before suggest bringing grip gloves and good hiking shoes. Put Phutuq K'usi at the forefront of your travel plans using our Machu Picchu trip maker tool .

  • Amazing views of the unique trail route requires good health and the level of physical preparation. For the first time has risen here in March 2015, returned with friends in March 2017-unique flow washed away part of the route, but an alternate bypass route is easier.

  • This trek is very nice. We were the only one who were trekking there. Unfortunately there is no ladder anymore for what reason we had to stop at the rock wall. But the walk until this was beautiful. You can snap some really nice shots there!
  • The trail is nice, but there is no longer a ladder.

Where to stay in Machu Picchu

Visitors to Machu Picchu won't find much in the way of accommodations on the site itself. In fact, there's only one hotel located there, a rather pricey one that sits right by the ticket booths. Many of those who come to see the ruins stay in the nearby town of Aguas Calientes, situated just a short bus drive to the east. The accommodations here vary greatly, from backpacker-friendly hostels, to plush riverside hotels with additional facilities, such as spas, restaurants, and bars.
