Huaca Pucllana, Lima

4.4
In stark contrast to the skyscrapers and modern infrastructure surrounding it, the steep stones of Huaca Pucllana boast more than 1,000 years of history. The adobe pyramid, standing in what is now the center of Peru's capital, was built by before 700 CE by the pre-Inca people known as the Lima. Constructed from seven rising platforms, the pyramid served as a power base for elite clergymen, from which they controlled the affairs of society. Gaze upon the pyramid and imagine the mystical ceremonies that were conducted in this holy place more than a thousand years ago. • Fascinating, archaeological, and in the middle of Lima! Not a site that you need to make any effort to discover, no dusty roads, and easy to access. Hire a guide that you can understand. Ours was so.....  more »

  • Really interesting historical site. Definitely a must see with a guide so you truly understand the full history. It is very well preserved and well restored. They are still working on restoring more but most of it is uncovered now. There were 25 ancient cultures before the Inca, this is one of them. It's pretty easy to walk around and there is a small museum at the entrance which really explains a lot so don't miss that. But even with that make sure you get a guide as they fill in all the Blanks. Plus you are supporting the locals. Great for all ages.
  • This was an interesting place to experience ancient ruins because of its right in the heart of the city. What makes this even more interesting is that it’s architecture is very different from what you expect to see in Peru. It is a huge Pyramid all built from mud clay. The pyramid itself is very impressive and very old.
