Trip Planner: Europe / Poland / Southern Poland / Lesser Poland Province / Krakow / Sukiennice (Cloth Hall)
Located in the middle of the main square, Sukiennice (Cloth Hall) is one of the city's most recognizable architectural landmarks. The Renaissance building was once the center of international clothing trade (thus its name). In the final decades of the 19th century, it was converted into an art museum and became a major cultural venue. The grand halls house one of the largest permanent exhibits of Polish art, arranged by historical period and theme. Take a self-guided tour of the upper-floor galleries to see noted works by Josef Chelmonski, Aleksander Gierymski, Jan Matejko, and Jacek Malczewski. The ground floor features a busy market where you can purchase handmade crafts and souvenirs. nowadays it's a place for getting souvenirs. it is unique and very recommended if you plan to visit the Rynek Glowny. take a moment to look at the walls to see the city flags as well more »
This place has been a market square for half a millennium. That alone makes it a worthwhile visit. It’s also the centerpiece of the main square of Kraków. Though the shops sell mostly tourist type stuff, lots of it are higher quality (including amber jewelry). Prices are mostly reasonable. Don’t expect to haggle much like in the past. Prices are basically fixed unless you buy multiple or more expensive items.
Stunning market hall in the very centre of Krakow's Old Town. Market stalls are a bit overpriced. Some of the stalls do some cool things, saw one that sold old pistols and revolvers, not sure if they were just replicas or not but that caught my eye. Good place to by religious artwork and souvenirs. Some artists have also set up nearby and they are extremely talented. Worth checking their work out and maybe pick up a new piece for your home.
