Trip Planner: Europe / Spain / Basque Country / Province of Vizcaya / Bilbao / Guggenheim Museum Bilbao
Housed in a building that is widely regarded as architect Frank Gehry’s masterpiece, Guggenheim Museum Bilbao contains a large collection of contemporary art. The museum is seamlessly integrated into its urban surroundings, featuring interconnecting shapes of stones, glass, and titanium on a 32,500 sq m (350,000 sq ft) site along the Nervion River in the old industrial heart of the city. While modest from street level, the building is most impressive when observed from the river, and many travelers consider simply seeing the site from this viewpoint the highlight of their visit to the city. Yet the treasures inside are the real attraction for art lovers from around the world. The museum features numerous exhibits of works by prominent Spanish and international artists. It generally hosts thematic temporary shows, though the highlight is a series of steel sculptures designed by prominent artist Richard Serra. elles sont très disparatres malheureusement deplus, un étage était fermé pour travaux.Mais ,il faut quand même le visiter. more »they are very disappearing unfortunately more, one floor was closed for work. But, you still have to visit it.
The Guggenheim experience begins at the moment you see the building. The architecture is spectacular, and is beautifully integrated into the river and its surroundings. Inside, the exhibits range from mind mending, to thought provoking, to mundane, depending on your personal tastes. Purchasing tickets online is handy, as the line to scan electronic tickets was shorter, at least on the day I was there. I went for the 10 am open in order to avoid the crowds, and was mostly successful. Overall, an excellent experience.
Amazing. The building itself is a work of art and you can see the big Puppy in front of the museum. Actually, I was not a big fan of contemporary art because I could not understand their point of works. However, I changed my mind, thanks to the museum. The audio guides are very great, so I was able to learn and understand a lot. I could feel art deeply through the great works. Especially, The matter of time was a big scale work beyond my expectation. On the other hand, it was a little bit pity, we are not allowed to take pictures inside the museum. All in all, I spend there over three hours exploring the collections. it was absolutely worth visiting.
