La Basilica De San Isidoro De Leon dates back a millenium, although it has been rebuilt since then. Within the church is a pantheon serving as the burial place to some dozens of members of Spanish royalty from centuries past. Be sure to look up at the ceiling frescos in this royal tomb. Relics from Saint John the Baptist and Saint Pelayo are on display, as well as the remains of San Isidoro. The museum is sure to interest history buffs, with medieval ivories, fabrics, and codices, as well as a Visigothic Bible. • The basilica is located in the old town in the center of the city. The exterior should not be deceived.it's extremely majestic inside.

  • You can not pass through León without seeing and enjoy the Basilica of San Isidoro that also the church does not need to take entrance, wonderful the cover . The museum with the chalice of Doña Urraca and the Sistine chapel of the Romanesque if you have to take out entrance and it is done in groups. What I didn't like was that ban and chase of the guide to take pictures. They can be made without flas or tripod. I suppose so that later you buy in the store that does not offer photographs or images of the paintings with all the quality of details that this deserves

  • Expecting the Basilica to be larger than the cathedral. No it smaller and more on the simpler side. There are nice side chapels. Also no charge to see and rest in contemplation for a while.
  • I attended the 7 PM "pilgrim service". The service of course was all in Spanish, but there no booklets to follow. The sermon was far too long, especially since a fair number of people didn't understand a word that he said. After the 40 minute service, he asked the pilgrims to come to the front (in Spanish ), but once we were there, he greeted and spoke to us in English. He handed out two leaflets, a prayer in Spanish and some history in our language of choice.
