Castell de Sant Joan (Sant Joan Castle), Lloret de Mar

Sitting on a hilltop, Castell de Sant Joan (Sant Joan Castle) is an 11th-century castle that was largely destroyed in 1805 by the British navy. Now, the site serves as a monument where you can learn about medieval history. Climbing the hill and the tower can be tiring, but the view from the top is worth it. There are also informational signs on the castle’s history, although English descriptions are a little lacking. English brochures are often available at the entrance, and provide more detail. • Not a whole lot to actually see in terms of the structure itself but the views from the top are spectacular and well worth the 3 euro enterance fee. The history of the place is interesting too which you can read about on the signs dotted around the place and the pamphlet they give you.
  • A great little find on the coastal path. The guide on duty was very helpful telling us about the tower and how to get to Jardins de Santa Clotilde further along the the coast just past Fenals. The view from the top was breathtaking. Certainly worth the small entrance fee.
