Frankly you do not expect a collection of these characteristics even intuit it because it has almost no advertising and the visits are very restricted because of the indications of the founder. The specialty is ceramics finding what you want to mold in Spain from the Middle Ages (the Muslim collection is striking) until the eighteenth century (I had not seen as many pieces and of as good quality of the Good Retiro factory as here). Also noteworthy are the textiles especially, for me, the Nasrid collection. You can find what you want in decorative arts from the Middle Ages to the 18th century. It was surprising to find me a jubón of men in perfect conditions of the XVI century or old stained glass to the crystals for preservation. If you are interested in armor the collection is also very good or the rolling privileges or the marfiles.... A characteristic of the collection is its arrangement with ancient criteria very close to the vacui horror that today are shocking to the visitor but serve as a testament to a way of presenting and collecting. The library has some very interesting backgrounds but your consultation is limited to researchers. The Institute has two different parts the museum (already mentioned) and the housing of the inhabitants. It is very curious to visit this part because you see what was actually a house of the upper class of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century both in the conception of the spaces and in the way of decorating them. For its uniqueness (and not for the quality of the exposed) what struck me most was the founder's office. As a last tip don't forget to look at the great collection of confectioners and tapestries found throughout the building. Visiting it is very difficult because it can only be done at the prior request because the founder wanted the collections to be mainly the subject of research rather than exposure to the public.
He podido visitarlo gracias a las visitas guiadas que organiza Bienvenidos a Palacio. Merece la pena. more »I have been able to visit it thanks to the guided tours organized by Welcome to the Palace. It's worth it.
