Military history and aircraft enthusiasts appreciate Museo del Aire, a national aviation museum housing hundreds of weapons, documents, and aircraft. Learn about more than 20 planes and helicopters on display, most of them ex-military, and watch for the Cessna 310--the space suit used by Cuba's first cosmonaut. When you're finished viewing the indoor exhibitions, head out back to see the Granma Memorial, a glass structure featuring the yacht that transported Fidel Castro and his revolutionaries from Mexico to Cuba for the revolution. The outdoor displays also feature a Soviet tank destroyer and the engine of a U.S. Lockheed U-2 spy plane shot down during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Museo del Aire Reviews
Great museum for both aircraft enthusiasts and those who like museums in general. First a couple of tips the staff there do not speak English the best way to get there is by taxi I paid around 25 euro from the centre of Madrid one way, bags are not allowed in the museum but lockers are provided which cost 1 euro and are located to the left of the entrance. Secondly make sure you stick to the pathways if you deviate from these the staff which patrol the site will blow a whistle and redirect you back to the pathways. Also be advised the museum is only open for 4 hours from 10am and closed on a Monday so best to get there as they open to give you plenty of time to see everything. Entry fee the day of my visit cost a mere 3 Euros, I cannot recommend this museum highly enough as there are some rare types on display that you will not see elsewhere.
The museum is a nice place to visit, with lots of airplanes, old and more recent. Entrance is free, though adults are requested to pay a 3 Euro fee voluntarily. An exciting museum for children. The place is only open during the mornings between 10 AM and 2 PM. Calculate about 2 to 3 hours for the visit. For drinking there is a very basic bar and for souvenirs there is a small shop with some nice cheap things for children bit also more expensive items for adults.
