Trip Planner: Europe / Spain / Community of Madrid / Madrid / Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia
Take a journey through modern art at Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, which features some of contemporary art’s most revered works, including those from famous Spaniards Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dalí. The museum is mainly dedicated to Spanish art of the 20th century, but the extensive collection includes works by a number of international artists, including Max Ernst, Robert Delaunay, Richard Serra, and Francis Bacon, to name just a few. The museum’s many galleries often play host to a mixture of national and international temporary exhibits, while the on-site free-access library contains an impressive collection of over 100,000 art books. The galleries displaying the permanent collection are spread over two floors, so if you’re looking for a specific work, save time by picking up a copy of the museum’s floor plans from the information desk at the entrance. Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia reviews
This museum is even better than the Prado. Situated in a former hospital, it was much larger than we anticipated. Go for Guernica but you'll find much more. more »
This painting is a must . Of a bombing in a Spain town . In every area you can scan the QR code and get some info Also have WiFi to google and understand the painting more »
This place is a must-see for whoever likes modern art. The design is by definition modern and makes you think of the Whitney Museum in New York. A lot of things to see (expect at least 4 hours to see everything). Very spacious rooms and not crowded at the end of the day. The bookstore is also nice. And the entrance is free for teachers.
Decent museum for modern art. The highlight is Picasso's Guernica. I'm not sure it's worth the 15 euro entry fee, so many people go at 7pm during the week when the museum offers free entry. Pro-tip: go to the main entrance, not the one by the plaza. It's the covered entrance with the Roy Lichtenstein sculpture is. The line is quicker. Good for modern art from cubism and beyond.
