The impressive collection of Baron Thyssen nicely complements the Prado, especially with its Impressionist art. more »

It's FREE ON MONDAYS! Very nice museum of medieval to contemporary art. It is right in front of el Prado so one could actually do both easily in the same day. Just be careful if you go on the free day it might get packed. I liked the fact that there is a wide set of paintings from a wide set of historical periods. From the 1500 to the 2000. The arrangement does not always follow the evolution of time which make it sometimes a little confusing but overall very enjoyable!

A fantastic museum with some exceptional pieces, in a relaxing setting. I particularly like how the collection isn't built around just one school or epoch, but rather you get to follow the history of visual art over many centuries with a compact, high-quality representation of each style and era. The Prado might be mightier and technically more impressive, but this is my personal favourite art gallery in Madrid.
