Built as a hunting lodge, Palacio Real de El Pardo was also the residence of Francisco Franco, the Spanish dictator. King Enrique III of Castile built a pavilion on the site in 1406, but it wasn't until 141 years later that Emperor Carlos V constructed the rest of the palace. It was renovated in the 18th century, and became the neoclassical structure you'll see on your visit. Tour the frescoed room painted by Gaspar Becerra, and admire the artwork of Vincenzo Carducci and Cabrera on the walls. Then make the rounds of the plazas, gardens, parks, and other buildings in the vast complex. Although tinged by the historical division that sparked the civil war (Franco was the inhabitant of the palace, until his death, today it is accommodation for foreign delegations and museum). It has two large areas that denote the different eras of the monarchies, the Austrians and the Bourbons, both of remarkable beauty, with differences in style and materials, in addition to the impressive carpets that cover the two external courtyards.

Also night they told many things about the tapestries and frescoes with which they were decorated and about the furniture that was in the different rooms. The guide, although a little peculiar (he did not greet, I do not know presented or said goodbye), made a very enjoyable visit in which he gave a lot of interesting information. I would definitely recommend it.
Very cute and quiet day trip about 15 minutes from Madrid. Take the 661 bus from Moncloa. The palace isn't always open so check hours and dates before going. It's free Wednesday afternoons as well.
The palace was very interesting and our guide was very sweet we were the only two English and they arrange for a special tool for us which I could not thank them enough the tour lasts about 1 hour and in October was not too busy certainly worth a visit and then a light lunch afterwards at one of the many restaurants nearby
