Stand under the high, granite arches of Puerta de Alcala, one of Madrid’s most iconic landmarks. Built by Carlos III in 1778, the gate stands at 19.5 m (64 ft) and features elegant Baroque architecture adorned with decorative carvings. Look for the lion’s head that hangs above each of the three arches. Stand back to admire the statues on top of the gate representing the four cardinal virtues. • A symbol of Madrid, motif of songs, which is preserved in the time very well-kept, with beautiful gardens

  • Very beautiful Portal, well representative for the city. Educated tourists, lined up to each one go taking your picture, pretty cool. It is close to Parque del Retiro.

  • Very fine hotel. Wonderful accommodations and service. Highly recommend. They could not do enough for you. Very, very nice.
  • Now that's great sculpting and premier architecture right there! Very picturesque! I took so many shots of this one piece. It even illuminates with different colors in the dark. The people come out surrounding this piece of art. The big rotunda makes it possible for everyone to get a photo.
