Ieronimus, Salamanca

4.8
A permanent exhibition on the history of Salamanca’s cathedral and the diocese, Ieronimus is located within the medieval towers of the New Cathedral, an attraction in themselves, worth climbing for the views. If you’re intimidated by the steps, keep in mind that tour groups stop frequently for pictures so there is plenty of time to rest. Check online in advance to time your visit to hear the bells from up close. Don’t miss the video simulation of the damage caused by the 1755 Lisbon earthquake. • This was easily the best thing I did in Salamanca. The trip up takes you around several scenic viewpoints of the cathedral and both the interior and exterior, culminating in great views at the top of ...  more »
  • It's a visit you can't do without. It is an excellent way to get to know the Old and New Cathedrals from exceptional perspectives. The views from above are great! You have to climb a lot on foot, but, as you do in small stages, it can be done without much effort.

  • Best way to view both the cathedral and Salamanca. Great first tourist attraction. Brilliant way to see the rooftops and the ceilings of the cathedral as the walkways both go up and around the tower that you enter and include a short walkway around the upper parts of the cathedral interior. Would wholeheartedly recommend at only €3 for the experience. Excellent value for money
  • It's always good to get a view of a city. The Ieronimus tower gives this plus a view of the nave from an elevated gallery and walkways on the roof. It's a great opportunity to see some of the carvings and decorations close-up, and get a whole new perspective of the cathedral(s). There are several different rooms with exhibitions on the way up, which makes the climb easier.
