Custodia de Arfe Reviews
Impressive gold religious icon used once a year in a parade. It is ornate to the extreme and a wonderful example of the craftsmen of the period. more »
This is the most stunning piece of metalwork I have ever seen in my life. The amount of detail is gobsmacking. To think a human mind conceived of it is beyond my ability to comprehend. It sits inside.... more »
Custody of Arfe, ready to go. There are plenty of words to present to our Custody of Arfe, waiting for the Treasure of the Cathedral, waiting for your moment to walk through the walls adorned and adorned of your Toledo, carpeted with thyme and rosemary. Talking about the Corpus in Toledo does not need presentation already is that it is a festival considered of International Tourist Interest, but in case there is still anyone who still knows it, to say that the Custody of Arfe is the spiritual and artistic heart of the Corpus Procession. It's all about me talking about custody because it's known worldwide, and I think it's for several scouts, but good... To put something said that the Custody is mounted and disassembled with 12,600 screws, to hold about 5600 pieces and 260 figures with its 370 kg weight. Also comment that its structure consists of two parts, the ostensorio or hand custody, and the large Gothic structure that resembles a cathedral tower. When he leaves possessing, he goes in a chariot accompanied by the cadets of the Infantry Academy. The body of the Custody is a large Gothic hexagonal plant ensemble, made of silver and gold. This work of goldsmithing was commissioned by Cardinal Cisneros to the jeweler of German origin but born in León, Enrique de Arfe. It is said that it was made with the first gold brought by Christopher Colon of America, but... well I doubt it... If I can tell more about this Custody, because it has curious things such as that fame was taken by Enrique de Arfe, but originally Isabel the Catholic was commissioned to the Catalan goldsmith Jaume Aimeric, who ended it in 1499... but Isabella the Catholic will die five years later and barely enjoyed it, with which Cardinal Cisneros commissioned the purchase of the ostensorio, complete with another silver one, and commissioned By Henry of Arfe. Arfe did it but let's say he ended up overworked, because although he had already taken custody for the Cathedral of León, and he had experience, he was making another one for the city of Cordoba... but Cardinal Cisneros commanded and much... with which he multiplied thanks to the replacement of Cordoba goldsmiths replacing him on so many trips to Toledo. Well I don't extend any more, if I can tell more about the Custody but in case anyone still doesn't know to say that this marvel of goldsmithing is guarded in front of the ecclesiastical and political authorities and back by cadets of the Infantry Academy , waking up as he passed through the village great applause, intense emotion even shedting tears of people who, at the passage of the Custody sprayed by flower petals from the balconies, glides through its enthralled and adorned streets. I always recommend things, but this even more so. Ahh, and in case anyone asks you that the first time he left for Toledo was in 1595, to celebrate the title of Cathedral Primate to the Toledana Cathedral. Good paragraph, happy day.
