Trip Planner: Europe / Spain / Valencian Country / Province of Valencia / Valencia / Valencia Cathedral
Constructed over a few centuries, Valencia Cathedral is a Gothic monument that has been an icon in Valencia since the 13th century. Inside the cathedral, you'll find 15th-century paintings and the same grand architectural style notable in the building’s exterior. On display is one of the so-called holy chalices, which Christian historians claim may be the Holy Grail. The chalice dates back from the first century and was used by many popes as the official papal chalice. Mitten im alten Herzen liegt die Kathedrale, die man sich unbedingt anschauen sollte! Wer Treppen nicht scheut - ich verrate nicht wieviele es sind - sollte den Blick vom Turm auf die Stadt genießen. more »In the middle of the old heart lies the cathedral, which you should definitely look at! Those who don't shy away from stairs - I don't reveal how many there are - should enjoy the view from the tower to the city.
A fantastic visit, well worth the reasonable entrance fee. You can also pay separately to climb the tower. It is a pretty steep climb but the views are worthwhile. The audio guides are free as part of the tour and definitely worth using. You can do them in any order which can be helpful when trying to avoid the larger tour groups. Lots of history and some amazing things to see.
Fascinating. History through headphones definitely necessary. Incredible how wealthy the Church was! still is! Climb up the 207 steps to the bell tower is a must to view Valencia, although it is steep at the top. Bell still tolls. We experienced 2 pm - thankful it wasn't later or noon.
