Rainbow Village Taichung bursts with surreal artwork painted onto the sides of its buildings. Once a part of a network of inexpensive homes given to veterans of World War II and the Chinese Civil War, the village now contains rejuvenated structures painted by Huang Yung-fu Huang, a local artist who covered the buildings in colorful depictions of Chinese characters. Though you don't need to pay an entry fee, you can always donate, or alternatively purchase a souvenir from the gift shop, themed after the artwork in the village. rainbow village is worth the day trip out of Taipei to see this cute little village and one man's attempt to save his home. Also can buy souvenirs here to help support the village. more »
What can I say, this place is very famous among tourists. I do enjoy it when it is quiet and you are alone there. Gives a good vibe overall. The artist or artists who made this are brilliant. My partner lives close by so I am very lucky to be able to just go and relax. Taiwan is awesome.
Lovely little place to visit and see. Small village of a few houses left and the history behind how it became known as the rainbow village. It wasn’t too busy when we got there, although as it’s a place you only spend a brief visit, lots of tourist buses stop by and groups of people come and go. We got there around 10am and we’re able to walk around with no problem. We stopped for a rainbow ice cream and a play in the little sandpit/slide area. Toilets and washing area next to village. Definitely worth going to see if you are in the area/passing by.
