A small trading town in the 17th century, Kaohsiung now stands as a sprawling metropolis, its harbor representing the largest on the island.
On the 24th (Tue), examine the collection at Chimei Museum, make a trip to Dragon Tiger Tower, then head outdoors with Ai He (Love River), and finally make a trip to The Dome of Light. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: take in the exciting artwork at The Pier-2 Art Centre, savor the flavors at Freedom Sunset Market, and then take an in-depth tour of Fo Guang Shan Buddha Museum.

Change things up with a short trip to Rainbow Village Taichung in Nantun (about 34 minutes away). You can take a train from Kaohsiung to Nantou in 2 hours. Other options are to drive; or do a combination of train and bus. Traveling from Kaohsiung in March, expect Nantou to be a bit cooler, temps between 25°C and 16°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 28th (Sat) to allow enough time to drive to Taipei.
