Shop till you drop at Mercado San Miguel and Rio Creative Art Center. Get some cultural insight at Prado National Museum and Royal Palace of Madrid. Step out of Madrid to go to San Lorenzo de El Escorial and see Real Sitio de San Lorenzo de El Escorial, which is approximately 54 minutes away. There's lots more to do: see the interesting displays at Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza, stroll around Parque del Retiro, shop like a local with Diseno Propio. Artesania., and take in the exciting artwork at Casa de America.
