The site of the continent's first Spanish colony, Cartagena retains much of its colonial flavor thanks to a World Heritage-listed old town, encircled by old walls and protected by imposing fortresses.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Plaza de San Diego and Iglesia de la Trinidad. Change things up with a short trip to Aviario Nacional de Colombia in Isla Baru (about 50 minutes away). The adventure continues: step into the grandiose world of Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas, take in the local highlights with Walking tours, and contemplate the long history of Walled City of Cartagena.
