The capital of Sicily, Palermo was founded by the Phoenicians under the name of Ziz.
Venture out of the city with trips to Riserva Naturale Dello Zingaro (in Castellammare del Golfo), Tempio di Segesta (in Calatafimi-Segesta) and Duomo di Monreale (in Monreale). There's still lots to do: take in the architecture and atmosphere at Cattedrale di Palermo, explore the different monuments and memorials at Catacombe dei Cappuccini, tour the pleasant surroundings at Spiaggia di San Vito lo Capo, and admire the landmark architecture of Palazzo Conte Federico.

The landscape surrounding Catania, a medieval city on Sicily's eastern coast, is dominated by Mount Etna, the tallest active volcano in Europe.
Start off your visit on the 30th (Mon): get engrossed in the history at Monastero dei Benedettini, see Off-Road Tours, and then stroll around Giardino Bellini. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: take an in-depth tour of Museo Storico dello Sbarco in Sicilia 1943, make a trip to Chiesa della Badia di Sant'Agata, admire the striking features of Basilica Catedrale Sant'Agata V.M. Catania, admire the local landmark of Fontana dell'Amenano, then contemplate the long history of Piazza Duomo, and finally don't miss a visit to Piazza Alonzo di Benedetto.

You can drive from Palermo to Catania in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus; or take a train. In March, daytime highs in Catania are 19°C, while nighttime lows are 6°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 31st (Tue) so you can catch the bus to Taormina.

With its warm island weather and cliffside location overlooking the Ionion Sea, Taormina has been one of Sicily's most popular getaway destinations since the early 19th century.
Start off your visit on the 1st (Wed): take in the pleasant sights at Piazza IX Aprile, don't miss a visit to Corso Umberto, delve into the distant past at Ancient Theatre of Taormina, walk around Villa Comunale, then stop by Made in Sicily Taormina, and finally step off the mainland to explore Isola Bella. Keep things going the next day: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Chiesa del Varo, get lost in a book at Biblioteca Comunale Sant' Agostino, make a trip to Bell Tower and Astronomical Clock (Orologio Astronomico), then take in the architecture and atmosphere at Duomo di Messina, then get outside with Colli San Rizzo, and finally ponder the design of Fontana di Gennaro.

Traveling by bus from Catania to Taormina takes an hour. Alternatively, you can take a train; or drive. Traveling from Catania in March, you can expect nighttime temperatures to be somewhat warmer in Taormina, with lows of 11°C. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 3rd (Fri) to allow enough time to drive back home.
