San Lorenzo de El Escorial, also known as El Escorial de Arriba is a town and municipality in the Community of Madrid, Spain, located to the northwest of the region in the southeastern side of the Sierra de Guadarrama, at the foot of Mount Abantos and Las Machotas, 29mi from Madrid. Start off your visit on the 18th (Fri): steep yourself in history at Castillo de Manzanares el Real, walk around El Bosque Encantado, then don't miss a visit to Monasterio de Santa Maria de El Paular, then take in nature's colorful creations at Royal Palace of La Granja of San Ildefonso, and finally identify plant and animal life at La Silla de Felipe II.
