Considered the country's capital of culture, Trujillo was the birthplace of the North Group, a community of artists and intellectuals that included celebrated poet Cesar Vallejo and notable novelist Ciro Alegria.
You've now added Huanchaco Beach to your itinerary. On the 2nd (Sat), explore the ancient world of Chan Chan, enjoy the sand and surf at Huanchaco Beach, and then pause for some serene contemplation at Catedral de Trujillo - Catedral de Santa Maria. Here are some ideas for day two: take in the architecture and atmosphere at Santa Maria Cathedral and then steep yourself in history at Huaca del Sol y la Luna.

Take a break from the city and head to River Rafting & Tubing and Salinas de Maras. Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Tipon and Sacred Valley of the Incas. There's still lots to do: steep yourself in history at Sacsayhuaman, delve into the distant past at Tambomachay, don't miss a visit to Twelve Angle Stone, and take a pleasant ride with a tour on horseback.

Getting from Arequipa to Cusco by flight takes about 1.5 hours. Other options: drive; or take a bus. Traveling from Arequipa in June, plan for little chillier nights in Cusco, with lows around 1°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 14th (Thu) to allow enough time to travel to Machu Picchu.
