Built on seven hills, Lisbon has experienced a renaissance in recent years, making it the cultural star of Portugal.
You'll explore and learn at Igreja de Sao Roque and Carmo Archaeological Museum. Castelo de S. Jorge and Cathedral of Evora (Se Catedral de Evora) will appeal to history buffs. Get out of town with these interesting Lisbon side-trips: Cabo da Roca (in Colares), Castelo dos Mouros (in Sintra) and Evora (Capela dos Ossos & Aldeia da Terra). There's much more to do: don't miss a visit to Belém Tower, get up close and personal with brilliant marine life at Lisbon Oceanarium, see the interesting displays at National Museum of Ancient Art, and appreciate the history behind Arco do Triunfo.

You'll lose 3 hours traveling from Sao Paulo to Lisbon due to the time zone difference. Called "Oporto" by many, the city of Porto along the Duoro River lent the country and Port wine their names. Portugal's second-largest metropolis dates back to the 4th century, representing both a rich cultural past and industrial present through its architecture and style.
On the 20th (Wed), explore the activities along Douro River, then steep yourself in history at Largo da Oliveira, and then see the interesting displays at O Navio Gil Eannes. Keep things going the next day: kick back and relax at Praia da Costa Nova, then take a spin around town with BICLARIA - Bike Rental & Tours, and then steep yourself in history at Porto Cathedral (Se Catedral).

Take a break from Madrid with a short trip to Alcazar of Segovia in Segovia, about 1h 10 min away.
