Traveling by car from Tokyo to Hakone-machi takes 2 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of train and bus; or take a bus. Traveling from Tokyo in October, you will find days in Hakone-machi are little chillier (19°C), and nights are about the same (17°C). Finish your sightseeing early on the 9th (Wed) to allow enough time to drive to Kyoto.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine and Kiyomizu-dera Temple are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Shop till you drop at Nishiki Market Shopping District and Asahiyaki. Take a break from Kyoto with a short trip to Tokugawa Art Museum in Nagoya, about 1h 40 min away. There's much more to do: explore the historical opulence of Nijo Castle, admire the masterpieces at Kyoto National Museum, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Sanjusangendo Temple, and take an in-depth tour of Kyoto Museum of Crafts and Design.

Traveling by car from Hakone-machi to Kyoto takes 4.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of bus and train; or fly. While traveling from Hakone-machi, expect somewhat warmer days and about the same nights in Kyoto, ranging from highs of 27°C to lows of 18°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 13th (Sun) early enough to go by car to Nara.
