Hugging the western tip of Lake Titicaca, Puno serves as a melting pot of indigenous and imported cultures, and makes a great base for explorations around the region.
Sillustani and Iglesia San Pedro will appeal to history buffs. Get some cultural insight at Iglesia Apostol Santiago and Main Gate. Go for a jaunt from Puno to Chucuito to see Fertility Temple about 40 minutes away. There's still lots to do: step off the mainland to explore Taquile Island, don't miss a visit to Chullpas, steep yourself in history at La Casa del Corregidor, and race across the water with a speed boat tour.

Drive from Arequipa to Puno in 4.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus. Traveling from Arequipa in January, expect Puno to be little chillier, temps between 20°C and 5°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 25th (Sat) early enough to travel to Cusco.

Capital of the Inca Empire for three centuries, World Heritage-listed Cusco is now a major tourist destination, drawing nearly 2 million annual tourists with its well-preserved colonial architecture and proximity to Machu Picchu.
Visiting Salinas de Maras and exploor will get you outdoors. Get some cultural insight at Sacsayhuaman and San Blas. Venture out of the city with trips to Urubamba (Cerveceria Willkamayu, Cerveceria del Valle Sagrado, &more), Moray (in Maras) and Ollantaytambo (Sitio arqueológico Pinkuylluna, Perolniyoq Waterfall, &more). Traveling by flight from Puno to Cusco takes 4.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. Traveling from Puno in January, plan for somewhat warmer nights in Cusco, with lows around 9°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 3rd (Mon) to allow enough time to travel to Lima.

Founded in 1535 by Spanish explorer Francisco Pizarro, Lima represents an interesting blend of modern attractions and preserved colonial architecture, much of it clustered in the World Heritage-listed city center.
Your itinerary includes some good beach time at Playa Santa Maria del Mar and Balneario Embajadores. Miraflores and Barranco are good opportunities to explore the local culture. When in Lima, make a side trip to see Toboganes de Songos in San Jeronimo de Surco, approximately San Jeronimo de Surco away. There's much more to do: kick back and relax at Playa Penascal, take a stroll through San Isidro, relax and rejuvenate at some of the best spas, and take an in-depth tour of Museo Convento San Francisco y Catacumbas.

When traveling from Cusco in February, plan for a bit warmer days in Lima, with highs around 32°C, while nights are much warmer with lows around 24°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 12th (Wed) early enough to travel back home.
