Chitral: Khowar for "field"), is the capital of the Chitral District, situated on the western bank of the Chitral River in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Step off the beaten path and head to Chitral Gol National Park and Chitral Valley. Take a break from the city and head to Shandur Pass and Tooshi Game Reserve. There's much more to do: appreciate the views at Bumburet Valley, steep yourself in history at Chitral Fort, and take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Tirich Mir.

You can do a combination of taxi and flight from Nathia Gali to Chitral in 3.5 hours. Another option is to drive. Plan for slightly colder temperatures traveling from Nathia Gali in December, with highs in Chitral at 57°F and lows at 33°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 22nd (Sat) to allow enough time to travel to Islamabad.

Jaulian Buddhist Monastery and Taxila Ruins are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Get outdoors at Trail 5 and Margalla Hills. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Islamabad: Pir Sohawa (in Haripur) and Kashmir Point (in Murree). And it doesn't end there: look for all kinds of wild species at Bird Aviary, take in the spiritual surroundings of Faisal Mosque, take in nature's colorful creations at Rose and Jasmine Garden, and wander the streets of Saidpur Village.
