Built after the Norman conquest, Alnwick Castle is the seat of the Duke of Northumberland. The current duke and his family reside there but occupy only a small portion of the castle. The rest is open to the public throughout the good weather months. A guided tour will illuminate the history inside the castle's walls, where the rooms are decorated in grand Italian style. There's no shortage of rooms to tour, as Alnwick Castle is the second largest inhabited castle in England. The interior of the castle isn't the only attraction--the gardens are also a big draw. These formal, landscaped grounds surround a cascading fountain and, along with the castle, attract over 800,000 visitors a year. Alnwick Castle reviews
Fabulous castle. Capability Brown landscaped estate. Huge and in excellent condition. Staff over all a very friendly bunch. Eating venues restricted/not open due to covid I assume which can’t be... more »
There was no magic at Alnwick Castle. Overpriced and disappointing. Yes the castle looked attractive in landscape yet that alone did not warrant the £30.00 entrance fee. No concessions for over 60’s..... more »
Looked absolutely stunning from the outside and the town was nice to wander around but the castle didn't let dogs in. Not just the castle (which is fairly standard) but also the grounds which is a great shame. It also looked fairly pricey to get into but that's pretty standard with any national trust place.
Well worth a visit, lots to see and do. Has days with exhibitions on, we say one about Harry Potter's life. Good day had by all, worth visiting whilst it's dry though.
