Buckingham Palace, London

4.2
#1 of 4,195 in Parks in England
Buckingham Palace serves as a splendid reminder of the monarch's continued importance in British culture. If you visit during August or September, you'll have the opportunity to tour the palace's opulent staterooms. The queen receives and entertains guests and conducts special ceremonies in these spaces. Many of the furnishings date back to the 1830s, when King George IV transformed Buckingham House into a palace. On your tour, you'll learn how the monarch uses each of the 19 staterooms, hear colorful history relating to these spaces, and see numerous works in the British royals' art collection. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes, because the tour lasts from 2-2.5 hours and stretches out over 0.8 km (0.5 miles). Photography is not permitted inside. If you visit outside of August and September, you can still watch the changing of the guard outside the palace. • Worth watching to a guard at Buckingham Palace, between the official website of the British army to check the timetables.

  • The Palace and its surroundings are beautiful places! The change of guard is a crowded event, if you want to see something, come early, otherwise you will only see a crowd.

  • Visiting Buckingham Palace was nice, although I wish we could have visited inside. It was our understanding that only happens in the summer time though. However, being outside was cool and you can see...  more »

  • Have you truly visited London without having visited Buckingham palace? Not only is it a sight to behold the surrounding parks and area is beautiful, if you have the time to spare, spending a day relaxing around here is highly recommended. St James Park is beautiful. Take a walk along the lake, watch the squirrels scurry about, have an ice cream, watch the ducks fly up and down the river. Once you're done with this, walk across to Green Park, Mayfair for dinner. All right in the centre of London, what more could you ask for??
  • Very impressive building, both on the inside as well on the inside. And as you might expect from a palace, a lot of gold, marble and shiny objects inside. So you won't be disappointed. The picture gallery has some fine art on display and the room next to it gives some insights into the personal taste of the royal family. And to finish it off, you can enjoy some high tea in the garden at the end of the tour.
  • Unfortunately it's quite a long walk from the nearest tube station, but the destination is worth it. Perhaps the most impressive part of the visit was the staff. If you ask them any question about the house that is beyond their knowledge, before you can even say, "Oh no, it's not a big deal," out come the reference booklets and you will have your answer. They will not let you walk away without it, and I think that is the ultimate form of customer service. I also enjoyed the prince's collection of art, and how pieces from centuries were exhibited alongside contemporary pieces from the artists who were supported by the prince himself. Bringing new relevance to the old was the best thing about Buckingham.
  • I went into the place on the state tour and it was brilliant. This might be somewhat biased due to the fact I'm English and I love my country but I'd do it all again. There were a lot of paintings of British Monarchs and other royals- recent and old. All of them had this odd beauty to them and definitely had a lot of time and effort put into them. As well as the paintings there were a lot of other rooms such as a ball room, dining room and music room (with a gold piano). All of the palace is elegant and beautiful. The staff are also nice and helpful. If you wanted you could also use a tour guide which came in a multitude of languages such as French, Italian and Spanish (a lot more too). Once you left you could get lunch in the palace garden (sandwiches, scones and ice cream etc) and also tea and other drinks. Once you finished there you can go to the gift shop (which is fairly expensive). Due to the fact Megan and Harry's wedding was recent there were quite a bit of M&H themed items. Once you finished you can get ice cream (comes only a few flavours like chocolate, strawberry, mint choc chip, vanilla, caramel, mango and a few more). Finally you can either see the gardens (which was a separate tour) or you can go and see the rest of London.
  • Buckingham Place is for sure one of the best palaces I have ever seen. If you are visiting London in summer (when the Queen is not in the palace), I suggest you to add Buckingham Place as a priority on your list for your holiday. The palace is really well organized and the inside it's gorgeous. I recommend buying the ticket online so you will avoid queues there and enter directly. The queues are actually respected so if you buy the ticket online for a specific hour, you will definitely enter when you selected (the entrance is on the left of the palace). The audio guide is free and I recommend using it so you can find out a lot of interesting facts. The tour takes somewhere around 2-3 hours.
