Covent Garden, London

4.4
Head to Covent Garden for one of London's liveliest street scenes. A former covered vegetable garden, the area now offers a collection of cafes, restaurants, and shops. You'll find a global range of cuisines, from Japanese and Indian to French and British, and diverse shops offering various clothing styles, art, gourmet foodstuffs, and much more. Even if you're not hungry or interested in shopping, you can still find plenty of entertainment from the street performers. Watch magicians execute their tricks as buskers' songs fill the air. Before heading off, be sure to snap a few photos of the Royal Opera House's detailed facade. Theatergoers fill the area in the evening, but you'll likely find it bustling no matter when you visit. • The unicycle performance and the small orchestra in the courtyard below made the visit worthwhile. Stores begin to close at 5 pm on Sundays so the visit had to be cut short.  more »
  • Covent Garden is a magical place in Central London. There are some nice shops to visit and some local where to eat, but what is striking is the magic of place, a sense of vitality that reigns. To visit

  • Amazing place to rome around in the night.. So many street artists showing their talent. Ample of food options around. I liked a group of violinist playing and dancing very enthusiastically... Just awesome... Made my day..
  • I accidentally stumbled into Covent Garden attempting to traverse my way to the national gallery. It's a neat market with some interesting shops, great for finding souvenirs. At the time I went there was a fiddle band playing and they were quite entertaining, especially when eating my weight in cupcakes. As a side note the India Trading company in this market sells these awesome cheese stuffed crackers. Do yourself a favour and stop in and try them, they have samples.
  • Lots of goods places eat and shop. Specially if you like the outdoors, there's lots of stores with hiking, skiing and climbing stuff. Unfortunately it's always crowded. But you'll find here unique places that are worth sailing through the crowds.
  • very famous beautiful area of London, street buskers are fantastic and the huge amount of restaurants and shops make it a fantastic day out. I would highly recommend it for anyone visiting London, especially in the summer on a nice day.
  • Surrounded by high end shops, pubs and cafe Covent Garden has a wonderful atmosphere. Within the centre there us a market with more shops and large open spaces that usually has some form of show /entertainment going on!

Where to stay in London

Many of London's main attractions are spread out, so nearby public transportation is key. There is no downtown area as such in London, and some of the least expensive hotels have more convenient access to tourist sites than the costlier ones. For a quintessential London experience, consider staying in the West End. This part of town offers excellent theaters, historical sites, and eating and shopping options for every taste. Lodging won’t be cheap, but you’ll have the colorful variety of London life right at your doorstep. Look at Notting Hill or Chelsea for charming and less expensive boutique hotels and B&Bs.
