Kensington Gardens, London

4.7
#4 of 176 in Parks in London
Take respite from the bustling city in one of the capital’s eight Royal Parks. William III purchased the area in 1689 to be made into the private gardens of Kensington Palace; the asthmatic King enjoyed its tranquility and salubrious air. Today, Kensington Gardens serve as a peaceful refuge for all people living in, working in, or visiting Central London. Stroll through the avenues of trees and ornamental flower beds, pop into the Serpentine Gallery, and take in some of the Gardens’ most famous landmarks including the Albert Memorial, Peter Pan Statue, and the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Playground. • While Hyde Park exudes fame and boasts the title of most popular green attraction of London, Kensington Gardens appears as a discreet place, all surrounded and only open during the day, even by harboring the Kensington Palace, home to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, William and Kate, and their descendants. Ideal for sunbathing, picnics and bike rides.

  • One of my two favourite places in London. Kensington gardens are a perfect place for a stroll, a cup of tea by the lake or sitting on a bench reading a book. There are a lot of statues around the park...  more »
  • Aside from the tree colour there are some highlights not to miss. We headed for the Albert Memorial, the Peter Pan fountain, the Round Pond and of course Kensington Palace. The sunken garden at Kensin...  more »

  • Beautiful park! Always loved coming here. Grounds are well maintained. There's so much to do and see here as well. There Diana memorial park is fantastic too, with its pirate ship and wigwams, brilliant for the kids. Always worth a visit.
  • Fabulous walk from Hyde Park. Great for families, picnics, relaxing, having fun, or sunbathing. Beautiful plants, trees, and shrubs. Cafes and toilets. The Italian Garden is fantastic. Water and colour. The Sunken Garden, up by the Palace, is a must visit. Easy access.
  • Amazing palace and the garden of Princess Diana is always full of families and tourist! I love this place and want to spend time once or twice of month there! All around the palace and the lake in front of is full of relaxing! I really enjoyed! Thank you princess Diana
  • This is a must visit garden in London. You can visit this place if you are tired from a long walk in the nearby natural history, science or Victoria and Albert museum. This is adjoining Hyde park and it has plenty of beautiful spots to simply sit and relax. One can even play football, jog or have a nice cuppa of tea, coffee or ice cream. Or simply sit by the lake feeding the ducks.
  • Sometimes on some days when I feel I needn't work and wonder what to do instead, I often take my bike and cycle to the park which is relatively close by . l normally dismount and walk towards the round pond, prior to which there is always a deserted spot nearby where the grass is high and a small patch already partially flattened. I lay the bicycle down, rest my head against the saddle and drift away beneath the sun. The simple things are always best.
