Royal Mews, London

4.2
A vital part of royal life since the reign of Richard II, Royal Mews houses the cars, carriages, and horses used by the monarchy on royal and state occasions. It is considered one of the finest working stables in existence. Marvel at the ornate detail of the carriages, including the particularly lavish Gold State Coach. It has been used at every coronation since that of George IV in 1921. You can also admire the some of the fine livery worn by the Queen’s coachmen, which has remained largely unchanged since Victorian times. Be sure to pick up a headset for a free audio tour outlining the history of the Royal Mews and giving insights into how it operates today. Guided tours are also available during peak tourist season. On arrival, you and your belongings will be subjected to airport-style security checks. Try to bring as little as possible with you to get through the security screening more quickly. • I have always wanted to see the Coronation Coach and was not disappointed. I was amazed how big it is and covered in gold leaf. The other carriages on display were also interesting plus the 4 horses i...  more »
  • While a quick visit, our mother/daughter experience at the Royal Mews was enjoyable. The audio guide was well-done and it was fun to see the carriages in person. Downside - lots of younger kiddos on f...  more »

  • The Royal Mews gets ignored due to overwhelming focus on next door Buckingham palace. Yet I strongly recommend you to pay a visit to enjoy up close the Royal transport options.. beautiful carriages and vintage cars. This part of the visit is very easy to explore within a hour or so and is just a stone's throw from the palace. The shop is having some great authentic options and the Royal Mews staff(mostly women) were very courteous and eager to help. Kids would love this visit. Great for pics too. Go for it
  • Took my little girl here and she absolutely love it, it's was free for her which is very good. You can see all the royal coaches and horses and get to dress up, do drawing and have a go in a pretend coach. What's more is if you gift aid your ticket you can go back again free for 12 months!
  • Not sure about this. On the London tourist trail. Lovely carriages on show but a bit cramped. A couple of superb horses kept well back from potentially adoring public - quite understandably. Visited in August perhaps better at other times of year.
  • It was very very interesting. There is such a lot of work goes into keeping the horses, carriages and uniforms up to perfection. The horses are looked after so well. Keeping all the pageantry of the great British tradition alive.
  • The royal mews is a very interesting place to visit. All the horses over there are gentle and in there stables. There are allot of things to do. The art section is incredible. It has lots of things to do. In my opinion the royal mews is a great place...
